On April 6th 1941 the armies of fascist states (Germany, Italy, Hungary and Bulgaria) occupied Yugoslavia and made their government. The people couldn't take such a destiny for granted and an armed uprising followed. By fighting the enemy the start for a new Yugoslavia followed. 
Many partisans had a high morale, perseverance and the courage to fight and sacrifice for the freedom. For such deeds they mainly were praised in front of their comrades. By order of the High Staff of the people's liberating, partisan, and volunteer's army of Yugoslavia, the name of the people's hero was created, as the highest acknowledgement (1942). The following year the following medals were created: Order of the partisan star; Order of the people's liberation, Order for courage, and Order of unity and fraternity.
